Orixa tradition has spread to the Americas and the Caribbean through the transatlantic slave trade. A variety of religion has taken a variety of expressions in different parts of the world -i.e Lucumi, Santeria,Umbanda Vodou, Candomble, etc. Dance has been a tool of worship and healing in these systems. The lecture will explore the basic fundamentals to orixa tradition as it is expressed in Brazil through Candomble. It will explain the connection between the religion and the dance. It will discuss some of the stories, their symbolism, and how the dance brings it all to life.
